Thrive in Print conference and UK Graphic Awards confirmed for September 2021 and open for entries

The 2021 UK Graphic Awards will go ahead on 14 September, making the event the industry's first opportunity to get together in almost two years, and organisers FESPA UK and workflow software provider Vism are planning a spectacular day and evening.

The awards are free to enter and open now to all members of the UK’s wide format print industry. The awards night itself will follow on from Thrive in Print, an interactive and educational conference, also organised by the partners for the day. Both will take place at Oulton Hall, Leeds.

An incredible buzz”

Dan Tyler, Director at Vism says that there is an incredible buzz around the awards and the conference after the difficulties of the last year. “Both were drawing a lot of interest before they were postponed due to COVID restrictions, and the pent-up demand for this kind of industry event is almost palpable”, he said.

"We’re working to design an updated agenda for the conference to address new concerns and challenges highlighted over the last year, and we’ve extended the entry rules for the awards to include projects from as early as January 2019.

“The awards are open for entries until 3 July and we’d like to see as many entries as possible, to celebrate the fantastic resilience and creativity of our industry. It’s free and simple to enter, and a great opportunity to share your inspirational and stunning work, helping to raise us all into more positive and vibrant times.”

UK Graphic Awards to celebrate skills and expertise

The UK Graphic Awards will focus on the people and businesses producing stunning work across the country and the theme is ‘Be bold’.

“These awards aren’t about the kit you have or the people you network with – they are an impartial look at the skills, expertise and drive for change within the UK wide format print industry,” said Dan.

“People entering the awards will see that they aren’t able to even name the machines or media they’re using and the entries will be judged ‘blind’ by the panel. It’s all about the creativity and added-value that industry members can deliver.”

Thrive in Print to focus on innovation and business growth

The Thrive in Print conference is designed to be a day of informative presentations and group discussions, aimed at inspiring business leaders to develop their own new ways to thrive in the print business.

We want attendees to leave the conference with concrete ideas as to how they can advance their business, to not just survive after this difficult year, but to thrive,” said Suzi Wilkinson, Director at FESPA UK. “We believe our fresh approach and a clear focus on pandemic recovery, learning and business development will reap dividends for business owners and managers.

“The conference won’t include any sales-based presentations, just well thought through knowledge sharing sessions with industry experts. We want to show people just what can be achieved and give them the insight and contacts to help them emulate that success.”

Enter the awards

Entry is free and open to all wide format print businesses in the UK. There is no limit to the number of entries that can be made or the number of categories that can be entered. If you had already sent an entry before the event was postponed, it will still be included however you can submit updated information if you wish. The theme is ‘Be Bold’. The categories cover:

  • Live events and exhibitions
  • Retail
  • Roll outs/multi-site projects
  • Leisure and hospitality
  • Branded interiors
  • Museums and galleries
  • Best in show (chosen by the judges from the first six awards)
  • Sustainability and the environment
  • Innovation
  • Rising star
  • Wide format printer of the year (under 30 employees)
  • Wide format printer of the year (30+ employees)

The closing date for entries is 3 July.

Attend the event

The event will be held on Tuesday 14th September 2021 with a daytime conference followed by an evening awards gala including a drinks reception, three course dinner, live music and dancing.

Oulton Hall is located close to Leeds and has good transport links.
