This year the third BSGA British Sign Awards attracted entries from some truly world class projects, leaving the judging panel with an immensely difficult task in choosing which one should receive the ultimate accolade – the 2016 Sign of the Year Award.

The ‘Roland DG Young Signmaker of the Year’ award aims to reward the rising stars of the industry who have made outstanding progress in their careers to date. The award, presented this year at the 2016 BSGA British Sign Awards, showcased the talent of two entries this year that the judges couldn’t put a pin between, leading to two apprentices - Damian Jacobs of Allen Signs and Kirsty Donald of Owen Pilling Graphics - announced as joint winners.

Industry awards can sometimes be a bit of a cynical experience. The majority of these events are run by trade press publishers looking to extract a few extra pennies from the market, with winners tending to be representative of the individual category award sponsors own customer base. From experience the majority of awards events that I have attended seemed to be nothing more than a good excuse for a pissed-up food fight and an all-round back-slapping session in the bar afterwards, and there is nothing wrong with that if this is your thing, but it’s not for me.

The EDP Association counts 20 member printing industry trade press magazines across Europe, and at a special ceremony held during Drupa Mimaki picked up three awards that were accepted by Mike Horsten, General Manager Marketing of Mimaki EMEA.

Roland DG is delighted to confirm that they will continue to champion the next generation of signage professional as they once again sponsor the ‘Young Sign Maker of the Year’ award at this year’s BSGA British Sign Awards, which will return to the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham on the 3rd November 2016.

The FESPA Awards 2016 are now closed and the amount of entries has exceeded expectations, with 45% more admissions than for the FESPA Awards 2014.

FESPA is inviting its global print community to attend the FESPA Awards Gala Dinner, taking place on Wednesday 9 March 2016 at the Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam.

FESPA has extended the deadline for its annual Awards to Friday 5 February, providing printers with an extra week to submit their entries.

The SGIA Product of the Year competition raised the bar at the 2015 Expo (Atlanta, November 4–6) with a new class of entries in categories from digital inks, finishing and media to direct-to-garment, roll-to-roll and UV flatbed.

FESPA has launched its call for entries for its 2016 Awards, marking the start of its search for pioneering and innovative projects in the print industry.

Hearty congratulations to Nathan Aston of Ast Transport Branding who picked up the ‘Roland DG Apprentice of the Year’ award at last night’s BSGA Awards, presented by Roland DG managing director Brett Newman.
