An online services company, bigvaluebanners.co.uk was founded by Dave Quinn in 2008. Initially Dave outsourced all the printing and managed the front-end. However, the need for more control, and faster turnaround led him to bring nearly all his printing capability requirements in-house. Currently the business employs three production staff, while wife Amy, runs the day-to-day office and administrative side of the business.

Over the past 15 years, a strategy of steady in-house investment has scaffolded the business’ expansion into new service offerings. bigvaluebanners.co.uk offers a wide range of products including any sized banners in any material, wallcoverings, floor graphics, pavement signage, vehicle graphics, magnetic signs, contour cut self-adhesive, feather flags, flag poles, and more.

“The business has literally snowballed. We started out with Roland printers then invested in 3.2m UV LED Mimaki equipment also purchased from CMYUK, and now we’ve swopped out our Durst for the VUTEk. We’re now also looking at adding dye-sublimation technology to our plant list, which completes the last piece of our in-house production puzzle,” say Amy.

VUTEk power and versatility

While the VUTEk was primarily chosen for its speed and reliability, the business also sought assurance of top-notch fast response support from its supply partner.

“With our old flatbed, we were dealing with an engineer that had to come from France which wasn’t ideal. We really wanted local support, and we’d had a really good experience with CMYUK after buying our second Mimaki UJV55-320 from the company about 2 years ago. Sue Hayward [CMYUK’s Sales Director, Equipment] is the reason why we bought the VUTEk, she showed us that it was the right way to go,” says Amy.

The EFI VUTEk Pro 30h is a 3.2m wide hybrid production printer. With two channels of white ink as standard, it features UltraDropTM Technology 7pL printheads. It offers greyscale printing up to 1200dpi and up to five levels of multilayer printing in a single pass. It prints to a wide variety of substrates across numerous applications including day/night backlit graphics, décor, retail displays, outdoor signage, wallcoverings and window graphics.

Says Amy: “The VUTEk expands our in-house service offerings and enhances our throughput speeds and reliability. We can’t predict from one month to the next what type of work we’ll be producing as every day is different, but we are sure that the EFI VUTEk Pro 30h will underpin the next stage of our business evolution, taking us towards onward future growth.”
