Wide format digital production essential says Leeds printer

Print-Leeds, the specialist UV litho plastic and digital printer, is celebrating its first decade with a slew of new investments in wide format printers, digital production presses and materials handling machinery.

The company, which was formed in 2001, specialises in printing onto difficult materials such as rigid and flexible PVC, polypropylene, Mirri boards, lenticular and self-adhesive substrates.

The majority of its work is point of sale and point of purchase – wobblers, shelf strips, self-adhesives, plastic packaging, binders and folders, membership cards, mouse mats and floor mats. The digital print facility at Print-Leeds complements the company’s UV litho business, producing wide format banners, stickers, kiss-cut stickers, vinyl lettering, decals and canvasses, as well as standard size posters, exhibition displays, signage, stationery and general promotional print.

Some £250,000 has been invested in a Screen Truepress Jet 1600 UV, HP Designjet Z6100, Kongsberg i-XE10 high speed precision cutting table and an IKON Business Pro 650 digital production printer.

“Making this investment has been essential,” says managing director Rod Fischer (pictured). “We can’t afford to stand still in an industry where technology is continually moving forward. Digital print machinery has opened up a whole new market for us. Four of the five new machines are additions, not replacements and we will be going out to DRUPA to look at faster, flatbed digital presses.”

The company has also invested in the future of print with the appointment of an apprentice printer. Nick Broadbent joins the company on a three year apprenticeship at Leeds City College studying for an NVQ level 3 in Lithographic Printing.
