Google and CBS Outdoor UK are bringing together outdoor display advertising with online content in an experiment that aims to replace the need for printed QR codes by using the Google Goggles mobile smartphone app.
Google Goggles was developed so that people could more easily explore the world around them with a mobile device, and this visual search app works by matching portions of an image or picture against a library of digitally stored images.
CBS Outdoor UK says that when a smartphone user takes a photograph of one of advertisements using Google Goggles they will be directed to a specially designed mobile site from the brand with further information and exclusive extras.
