Here is probably the world’s first fully interactive ‘beard growing’ billboard in central Cape Town, South Africa.
This billboard is literally screaming ‘razor commercial’ at you but instead is presented by Bronx, “makers of the world’s manliest shoes.” By all accounts, every time anyone likes Bronx’s Facebook page the man’s beard will grow little more. Or as the shoe company puts it: “More likes = More Beard.”
Once you’ve liked the page, you also get the chance to watch a live feed of the billboard — which should be about as interesting as watching paint dry.
According to a spokesperson at Bletchley Park, the agency behind the campaign, the rope strands (for the beard) are automatically pushed through the beard billboard by digital servo motors, which are given commands through software which monitors the number of likes on the Facebook page.
There’s a competitive aspect to the campaign too, as users can invite their friends to like the page. Each one that does will push that user up the leader board. Users also stand the chance to win a year’s supply of Bronx Men’s Shoes. So there is a point to all of this, just.
File under WTF.
