The latest TV commercial from Audi for its new R8 Spyder features some 22 beaten-up old hot rods/stock cars which had been wrapped in Avery Graphics self-adhesive vinyls.
The concept and storyline involves a theme of ‘Beauty and the Beast’, depicting the new Audi as the beauty surrounded by ‘beasts’ in the shape of some of the most beaten-up old hot rods/stock cars in the world.
UK-based car wrap specialists Pyramid Visuals handled the wrapping and the Avery Graphics films were digitally printed on HP9000 solvent printers to give each car a unique and striking design. As well as Avery MPI 1005 Easy Apply, other materials used for the project were Avery 700 and 800 series and Avery MPI 2000 films.
Justin Murray, from Pyramid Visuals, who wrapped the cars says: “We used Avery MPI 1005 Easy Apply on three of the American hot rods as the bodywork had been autographed by famous drivers, and that was the only material we were confident would not leave any adhesive residue – and we couldn’t risk damaging the priceless autographs!”
The ‘Beauty and the Beast’ story involves all the noise and attitude of the hot rods, with each carrying its own distinctive design such as a skull and crossbones, or a mouth with big sharp-looking teeth, driving furiously around and missing each other by inches while the Audi R8 Spyder glides through the carnage and escapes unscathed.
