Polytype’s Virtu Quantum to be released at Drupa

wpdigital RS35

Polytype is set to use Drupa as the platform for the world-wide release of its new Virtu Quantum wide-format digital ink-jet printer which the company says promises a blend of quality and speed hitherto unavailable in the marketplace.

Originally announced at FESPA last year the printer is now available in widths of 2.5m and 3.5m, and the UV-curable machine incorporates high-definition 10pl print-heads, specially integrated by Polytype to produce 1,400dpi resolution for images suited to a range of industrial and display applications.

Polytype says its new Quantum series will allow even more depth and colour gamut for the accurate reproduction of typically difficult images, such as skin tones and sought-after brand shades – but at productivity speeds that will challenge even billboard quality modes from rival manufacturers.

“Polytype does what other manufacturers dare not do: we will drive a new machine hard in an actual working situation to make sure that we are aware of all of its capabilities,” says Sylvia Muhr, sales and marketing director for Polytype's Virtu Business Unit. “In doing so, we have fine-tuned the Virtu Quantum to deliver an unparalleled combination of speed and quality in its machine category, and visitors to our stand at Drupa 2012 will be amongst the first to witness it match its full potential.”

Stewart Bell, Managing Director of DPI, will be at Drupa and will be on hand to welcome UK and Ireland customers to the Polytype stand for the launch.

Mimaki moves to widen desktop UV gap

HG1Mimaki UJF-3042HG

The introduction of the latest Mimaki desktop UJF-3042HG underscores the company’s drive to widen the desktop UV printing gap. The new HG version printer will be released at FESPA Digital in Barcelona and is expected to show at Sign & Digital UK 2012 the month after.

HG2LaptopsMaximum height for printing materials is expanded to 150mm, and Mimaki has also added the capability to benefit from 6-colour plus white printing by incorporating two additional ink slots. Both white and clear inks add value to printed products by providing under/over-coating on transparent or coloured materials, as well as gloss or matte finish. The company has also expanded the thickness of materials that can be used for print to 150 mm and can print directly on A3 media (420 x 297 mm).

The UJF-3042HG is able to print on substrates that are impossible to use in a conventional model such as plastic, metals and wood; all of which continue to improve business opportunities for print service providers.

Mimaki is distributed in the UK & Ireland by Hybrid Services Ltd. National sales manager, John de la Roche, says: “Adding the ‘HG’ HG3Wooden box darkmodel to the Mimaki UJF-3042 product line-up provides customers with even greater choice dependent upon their application. Gloss and matte inks add significant value to the printed product and these inks enable the designer to highlight specific areas of the piece, making images literally pop off the page and adding other special effects to increase both quality and production value.”

EFI US now shipping VUTEk fabric printer

EFI VUTEk TX3250r

EFI has announced the commercial availability of the EFI VUTEk TX3250r fabric printer in the United States enabling customers to take advantage of the demands and requirements of the growing soft signage markets.

The VUTEk TX3250r printer is a new 3.2-meter, production-level solution that evolved from the first EFI industrial inkjet textile system, the VUTEk FabriVu, introduced in 2002.

The VUTEk TX3250r uses dye sublimation technology to dye, or sublimate, fabric fibres directly, so the fabric retains the same drape and soft hand customers prefer. This method achieves brighter colours than other textile printing methods and the final product is odourless. In addition, the TX3250r enables printing on polyester, which is a non-PVC material that is considered more eco-friendly than vinyl. Final printed images produced on the TX3250r can be washed, dried, folded without leaving marks and reused.

EFI says that with its ability to print direct to textile and transfer paper, the VUTEk TX3250r is an ideal solution for users looking to grow their soft signage business with a production-level printer, or to diversify their offering by converting traditional vinyl signage to a product with lower shipping costs, a greener footprint, easier installation and higher margins.
