Sustainable printing works

Founded in 2008, Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) is an independent, non-profit organisation providing a certification label for sustainability in the graphic communications industry.
The organisation was initiated by the top US trade associations such as Printing Industries Association (PIA), Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA), Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) and National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM). Before its creation, there were no boundaries or parameters set as to what defined a sustainable printing operation. “Green” products were available, but this did not address the actual manufacturing process.
To be granted SGP certification a company must demonstrate continuous improvement of sustainability and best practices within print manufacturing operations.
Monroe Litho is one company who has added SGP certification to its impressive list of credentials as an environmentally sustainable printer. Here VP of sales and marketing Tony Harris shares his thoughts on how the journey toward sustainability has been worth it, every step of the way.
SGP recently announced that Hasbro Global Operations-E. Longmeadow Site, an in-plant print facility, is now SGP Certified. SGP Certification plays an important role in Hasbro's Corporate Social Responsibility program, which emphasises three primary areas of sustainability: the environment, workplace conditions, and community relations. Hasbro has incorporated SGP's sustainability requirements into its everyday printing operations and its internal audit process. The company's annual improvement project - a requirement of SGP Certification - will become a Manufacturing Objective and included in Hasbro's Strategic Goal Deployment process.
SGP is supported by patrons including organisations such as HP, Durst Image Technology, and Dupont.
