GDW Stig’s team tee’s up French race ace for Silverstone
French sports car star Nicolas Minassian is to join British team, Jota Sport, at Silverstone next weekend for Round 4 of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Former Peugeot factory driver, Minassian, will join the Kent-based squad's established line up of Sam Hancock and Simon Dolan for the six hour enduro, sharing their already victorious LMP2 Zytek machine in which the duo won Round 2 of the championship in Spa.
Following the pre-season withdrawal of Peugeot from world sports car racing, 39-year old Minassian has spent the year thus far contesting the World Endurance Championship (which includes the Le Mans 24 Hours) in a Pescarolo-run Dome LMP1, alongside an additional programme for Sebastien Loeb Racing in the European Le Mans Series, in which he took an opening round podium at Paul Ricard.
Nicolas Minassian says: "I'm really happy to be joining Jota. We've seen from their win at Spa how competitive the team is, and Sam and Simon were battling hard for the lead in the most recent race at Donington. This is just a one-off deal for now, but they're a very ambitious organisation with a great facility and a bright future, so it's nice to be forming a relationship."
Sam Hignett, managing director, Jota Sport says: "Nic's a great addition to the squad. Running just Sam and Simon we were finding our choices for race strategy restricted by the rules regarding maximum driving time, so we decided to take a serious look at available third drivers. We're really lucky to have someone of Nic's calibre joining us."
The Silverstone 6 Hours starts at midday on Sunday, August 26th 2012.
